Welcome! Heather's ChildCare is run by a certified teacher who is experienced with various ages and personalities of children. I have current first-aid and CPR. I have worked or volunteered with children and youth from 6 months to 18 years. After completing teacher's college I decided that I wanted to work with younger children in a more casual environment, and so started a home daycare.

While I do offer an educational program, my primary focus is that the child is having fun and learning to interact with others their own age and with adults. Sharing, manners, problem solving, cooperation, etc are all important skills that children need to learn before entering a preschool or kindergarten and will serve them well throughout life. I provide a creative environment in which children can explore and use their imaginations. Each day there is both structured time and time for free play, as well as the casual learning that occurs as children interact with the world around them. Our small group allows children to learn to interact within a group, while still each getting a chance for 1-1 special time.

Open communication with parents is essential. Consistent rules, goals, routines, and expectations will make the transition from home to daycare much easier.  They will also create stability for the child and help them to feel more comfortable throughout their time in daycare.

We have a pet friendly home and daycare with 1 dog, 2 cats, and fish.  I believe that children benefit greatly from exposure to animals as they have been shown to reduce stress and encourage social development. I teach the children respect and empathy for the animals and that animals need care and love just like they do.

I serve 2 snacks (one in the am and one in the pm) as well as lunch, which is usually hot. Milk and water are always available. The older children (3 and up) occasionally get diluted juice with their afternoon snack.

Outdoor time is crucial for children! They get exercise, connect with nature, and explore textures, sounds, smells, and sights that are not found indoors. Besides, what toddler doesn't have a blast in a sandbox? We go outside whenever the weather permits and when the weather is really nice we often stay out for the whole morning. The tv is only on during quiet time for those who do not nap, and for less than 1 hour on rainy days. The daycare space is on the main floor with large windows for lots of sunlight.

We are located in the south-east portion of Waterloo (off Bridgeport between hwy 85 & Weber), walking distance from St Agnes, Lincoln Heights, and Ecole Harmonie).
